Combat those turmeric stains! - Nature Squared

Combat those turmeric stains!

When I am out on the road making up & offering samples of our TURMERIC [blend] at shows and events, as you can imagine, unsightly yellow stains and splodges are an occupational hazard. I often leave a 6 day event with a suspect yellow patch somewhere and baring a striking resemblance to Marge Simpson.  I have tried every trick in the book to get that dirty yellow tinge out of different fabrics, shoes and bags, with varying results. I thought I would share with you my most successful three step method ...

Step 1: Someone pass the vinegar!

White vinegar is one of life's unsung heroes, I use it around the house for all sorts of grimy jobs. Turmeric stain removal has got to be one of the toughest laundry challenges, but it doesn't scare the mighty power of white vinegar! I find this the most effective pre soak treatment, grab a bowl and add the following

  • ½ cup of white vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons of washing up liquid
  • 1 cup of water

Gently mix and then add the turmeric stained fabric. Leave to soak for 30 minutes.

Step 2: Time for a spin!

Wash in the machine on the highest heat that the fabric will allow.

Step 3: Sunshine!

Once removed from the machine lie the garment flat in direct sunlight for a good few hours. The sunshine will start to oxidise the turmeric stain and it will fade away ... hopefully until completely gone!

If one cycle of this method is not sufficient, simply repeat. I have had great results with this on denim, cotton and jersey. Good luck.

Do you have a tried and tested method for combatting the yellow tinge? We'd love to hear it ...
