Not All Magnesium Is the Same – What You Need to Know

Not All Magnesium Is the Same – What You Need to Know

Magnesium is one of those supplements most people recognise – often linked to sleep, stress, and recovery.

But there’s something that doesn’t get talked about nearly enough. Not all magnesium is the same.

Why the Numbers Don’t Tell the Full Story

If you’ve ever compared magnesium supplements, you’ll have seen very different amounts on the label.

On the surface, it feels obvious – more must be better.

But that number doesn’t always reflect how much your body can actually use.

Think of it like fuel.

A bigger tank doesn’t mean better performance if the fuel itself isn’t as effective.

What Really Matters

Two products can list the same types of magnesium, yet still deliver very different results.

That’s because some manufacturers increase the headline number by using – or blending with – magnesium oxide. It naturally contains a higher percentage of magnesium by weight, which allows the number on the label to look much higher.

But that doesn’t mean more usable magnesium.

In practice, it’s a bit like diluting the quality to increase the quantity. The number is inflated, but the benefit is lessened.

So while one product may look stronger on paper, it doesn’t necessarily mean your body is getting more from it.

It’s a detail that’s easy to miss but it changes everything. Which is why comparing magnesium supplements based on the number alone can be hugely misleading.

Not All “Magnesium” Is There to Benefit You

There’s another detail that often adds to the confusion. If you look closely at some supplement labels, you may see magnesium stearate listed in the ingredients.

Despite the name, this isn’t there to support your magnesium intake.

It’s commonly used in manufacturing as a flow agent or lubricant, helping powders move through machinery during production. It’s included for how the product is made, not how it works in the body.

Because it contains the word “magnesium”, it’s easy to assume it contributes to the overall magnesium content or effect of the product. In reality, it doesn’t.

It’s a small detail, but one that highlights how important it is to stop and question what is in a product before you start to take it, look beyond the headline and take time to understand what's behind the marketting.

A More Considered Approach

It would be easy for us to chose to chase bigger numbers.

But that’s not what we’ve chosen to do.

At Nature Squared, we use unbuffered, high-quality highly-absorbable forms of magnesium. The numbers on the label may appear lower at first glance, but they reflect true elemental unbuffered and effective magnesium – not what’s been adjusted to look better.

For us, it’s about effectiveness, not appearance.

With MAG3calm [blend], we’ve combined three complementary forms of magnesium with KSM-66® Ashwagandha, designed to support calm, balance, and everyday wellbeing.

Not built around the biggest number but around what actually works.

Feel better naturally, everyday!
