What is magnesium stearate?

Magnesium stearate is a synthetic additive commonly used in supplement manufacturing. Its job? To help machinery run more smoothly by preventing ingredients from clumping or sticking together during the encapsulation process.

It's often used as a flow agent or lubricant - not to benefit your health, but to speed up production.

Is magnesium stearate harmful?

Technically, magnesium stearate is classed as safe for consumption in small amounts. But there are still a few reasons we prefer to avoid it:

• It’s not a form of beneficial magnesium: Despite the name, magnesium stearate isn’t the same as the essential mineral your body needs for muscle, nerve, and bone health. It contains only a trace of actual magnesium — and that’s not in a form your body can readily use.

• It can be misleading: Some brands include it assuming customers will see the word magnesium and associate it with health benefits - but it’s not the kind of magnesium your body wants or needs.

• It’s not a natural compound: It’s usually made by reacting stearic acid (from palm or hydrogenated oils) with magnesium salts.

• It offers no health benefit: It’s purely there to serve the machines, not your body.

• Some evidence suggests: that large amounts may impact nutrient absorption, though more research is needed.

We don’t believe in fear-based marketing — but we do believe in being selective and intentional with what we put into your body.

Why we choose to leave it out

Our approach is simple: if an ingredient isn’t essential to your wellbeing, it doesn’t belong in our products.

Instead of relying on fillers or flow agents, we focus on:
